What is a Goldenmax FR-4 Copper Clad laminate?
A Goldenmax FR-4 Copper Clad laminate is a high-quality, fire-resistant PCB material manufactured by Goldenmax Cooperation.
An FR-4 CCL laminate is a PCB laminate constructed using a proprietary GDM process.
Specifically, it consists of a substrate or base reinforcing material, FR-4, and one or two copper sheets pasted on either side.
FR-4 copper-clad laminates are the most widely used materials for the construction of PCBs.
FR initials abbreviate ‘Fire Resistant,’ and the number 4 indicates the grade of epoxy resin reinforced with a wooden glass.
Goldenmax FR-4 Copper Clad Laminate
An FR-4 CCL is a fibreglass cloth substrate-based copper clad laminate.
You can modify or brominate the epoxy resin appropriately to meet the adhesive requirements of the laminate.
Standard single- or double-layered Goldenmax FR-4 CCL laminate has a main core constituting FR-4 material and copper layers on top and bottom layers.
However, multi-layered laminates have additional components, layers of prepregs, between the centre core and the copper layers.
The laminate, core, and prepreg may all be FR-4 with a copper sheet inserted between the ground and signal layers.
How Do You Manufacture Goldenmax FR-4 Copper Clad Laminates?
FR-4 material comprises a prepreg sheet manufactured using a mat of fibre.
The fibreglass itself has been impregnated with epoxy resin.
Usually, eight layers of prepreg covered by an outer layer of copper foil make up a standard 1.6mm circuit board.
The bonding of copper foil and the prepreg layers happens when you pass the Stack Up through a large pressing machine.
You will make the copper foil using slowly rotating a steel drum dipped into copper’s plating solution.
The slowly rotating drum deposits electroplated copper on its walls.
You strip the electrodeposited copper as the plated emerges from the solution.
The strength of Goldenmax FR-4 laminate will depend on the toughness of the glass cloth you use.
You can make a glass cloth by weaving the fine fiber yarn strands together.
The yarn themselves comprise very small and twisted glasses.
Another component, the epoxy resin, constitutes a bisphenol-A and an ethylene chlorohydrin.

How Can You Manufacture a Multilayer Goldenmax PCB?
Multilayer PCBs have been around for some time. These PCBs came in 1961 and were very simple back then.
Today’s multilayer PCBs are very complex and finds use in a very wide range of applications.
Multilayer circuit board technology is necessary for more complex, demanding modern electronic applications such as tablets, 4G/5G smartphones, PCs, CT scans, etc.

A multilayer PCB has three or more conductive copper layers in the middle and other build layers constituting copper foils and prepregs.

- Stack the laminates together, one after another, to the desired layers, then add the final copper to create final lamination stack.
- You need to pass the final laminate through a hydraulic press, which uses pressure and heat as described above. This process is known as curing and allows the adhesive system to melt and hold the core and copper foil together.
- Set the assembly to cool and allow the resin to settle at room temperature to complete the process of making a multilayer PCB.
Though the fabrication of a multilayer PCB process follows a similar process, it needs meticulous planning and attention to detail.
The final output is not only dependent on the process but also the planning and attention to detail.
